Congratulations to 2015 graduate Andrew Uscinski who was recently featured in the Redland City Bulletin for the incredible work his space satellite company Valiant Space is doing.
Andrew is the CEO and Co-Founder of Valiant Space, a company which “aspires to improve humanity’s access to the Moon, Mars and beyond by enabling sustainable growth through fast, safe and clean propulsion”. Valiant Space is working towards creating propulsion materials and designs that are cheaper and safer to handle and integrate into satellites.
With a Flight Attendant for a mother and an Airline Pilot for a father, it’s no surprise Andrew has been interested in space and all things flying since a young age.
While at the College, Andrew was involved in our Space Program, travelled to the US to take part in the International Space Settlement Design Competition and was a part of multiple Australian Space Design Competitions, including being on the winning team in 2014.
It was during his studies of Bachelor Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Queensland, that he met Michael Douw and discovered the business opportunity that they could fulfill with the creation of their own company. Andrew and Michael are Co-Founders of Valiant Space and are leading the way in economically and environmentally sustainable space propulsion design.
It’s wonderful to see how passion and interest in a range of fields while at the College can grow into an exciting and successful career.
Valiant Space will launch a payload into orbit onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 mission in June this year. This is such a huge achievement for Andrew and his team and we can’t wait for launch day.
