The Young Alumnus of the Year Award recognises a Sheldon College Alumni who has significantly created positive change in the broader community, through demonstrated excellence and continuous improvement in their chosen field. All while acting as an inspiration to our current students, and the College community.

Since her graduation, Tania has completed a Bachelor of Science with double majors in Ecology and Zoology, she then went on to complete the Honours program in Ecology. Tania then completed her Doctor of Philosophy, of which she completed her PhD on the recovery and restoration of damaged coral reefs, with a focus on the physical and ecological dynamics of coral rubble beds. All of these were completed through the University of Queensland.

Tania has committed years to conservation, marine biology, and coral reef research. She has worked in various remote locations across the globe in research programs. Conservation is her passion, and therefore she has and will continue to commit her life to her career.

She has been descirbed as someone who "embodies all of Sheldon’s core values and has left a mark on everyone she has met. Her past teachers and fellow students would all agree that she has no bad qualities and has committed her life to a greater cause."

Tania is currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher on the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program, at the University of Queensland. This role sees her involving herself with hands-on fieldwork, data collection, and laboratory work, all while leading her team to success. This is a collaborative project between multiple universities including UQ, QUT, SCU and JCU, as well as AIMS and CSIRO.

Throughout her career, Tania has received a countless number of awards, honours, grants, and scholarships. She has also produced numerous publications.
